COVID-19 Vaccine Update

Baylor Medicine is committed to vaccinating our patients as quickly as we can. We are following the federal and state guidelines for distributing the COVID-19 vaccine (primary series), additional third dose for immunocompromised individuals and booster dose. You do not need to be a current Baylor Medicine patient to receive the primary vaccine series, additional third dose or booster shot.

As of Wednesday, May 12, 2021, everyone aged 12 and older is now eligible to receive the primary series of the COVID-19 vaccine.

On Aug. 13, 2021, the CDC published recommendations that people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should receive an additional third dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after receiving the primary two dose series. More details can be found here: Third Dose for Immunocompromised Individuals

On Sept. 24, 2021, the CDC recommended a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty) vaccine be given six months after completing the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine for specific populations. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster shot is not authorized for use in people who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccines continue to provide people with strong coverage against severe illness. More information on booster shots can be found here: COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shot
